How to get to Utrecht

Utrecht lies at the hub of the Dutch motorway and railway networks and can easily be reached by car (, by rail ( and by plane (Schiphol Airport is closest).

The best way to travel from Schiphol (Amsterdam) Airport to Utrecht is by train. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket office or vending machines at Schiphol station. Note that return tickets are valid for the same day only in the Netherlands. There is a direct train from Schiphol airport to Utrecht Central Station, which runs twice an hour. The train journey lasts about 35 minutes and costs around €8 (one-way journey, second class).

How to get around Utrecht

Both buses and trams operate within the city of Utrecht. To use them you will need to purchase a so-called OV-chipkaart for €7.50 (public transport chip card), which is available at various outlets at the main railway station and other locations.
